Working with both archive footage and valuable sound recordings, she conjures up the avant-garde artist through recordings of his work, his philosophy of his art and comments by many close collaborators including notably John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg. Not meant as a biopic, film concentrates on spectacularlhy cinematic (in 3-D) new performances of many of his dances, executed by members of his company, which disbanded in 2011, after Merce's death in 2009.
At a q&a following the screening, Kovgan indicated that Wim Wenders' innovative 2011 3-D dance film about German choreographer Pina Bausch inspired her to take on this formidable project, finally starting shooting in Stuttgart in 2015 with principal photography taking place in 2018.
Her use of 3-D technique is outstanding, resulting in gripping visual images, enhanced by the accompaniment of the original dance scores by John Cage and others. For a novice like me, not overly familiar with Merce's achievements, the movie brings his dance to life and points to how 3-D technology can be used artfully rather than as a gimmick, or its current excuse to permit higher price points for movie admissions to films, both animated and action-oriented, that should play just as well if not better in 2-D on large screens.

That said, all of his films are ones to be highly recommended, they Paprika especially can have a tendency to be challenging, which can delight or alienate viewers, but they are gorgeously animated, compelling and I think very unique. Tokyo Godfathers is not quite as good as Paprika but it is a truly beautiful film and of Kon's work I'd go as far to say that it also is his most accessible. The animation is beautiful and detailed if in a different way to the more surrealistic styles of Perfect Blue and Paprika, here very intricate with very expressive character design, and very fitting with the film's tone. The music is memorable and beautifully composed, complimenting the story perfectly. The dialogue is thoughtful with some humorous touches, matching the nature of the story that is full of charm and pathos- bringing some optimism and hope into a cold world and society- without ever feeling mawkish or dull. The story is slow-folding but in a deliberate sense. The characters are full of emotions and we identify with them no matter the flaws, in short they are very true to life, none of the idealistic stereotypes I've seen all too often. Hanna is the one that stood out to me the most. The voice acting is as dynamic as you'd expect, more so in the Japanese dub rather than the English. All in all, beautiful and highly recommended. 9/10 Bethany Cox.

So, it's based around the lives of 3 homeless people who are trying to save a baby. This sets up a story of coincidences, love, sadness, regret. The characters are fantastic and have depth, the snowy japanese city scenes are simultaneously beautiful and run down. The story is unrealistic, but the message of the film is more about people who want to do good despite terrible events and hardship, and regret. Not an animation for under 20's. I really loved its originality and the way the story revolves around three people that hate themselves and are discarded by society. A great film.

I'm a sucker for a good ol' little-man-against-the-system movie (think "Erin Brockovich" and "Silkwood. of which "Dark Waters" is the latest example. I was mostly intrigued to see what Todd Haynes would do with the formula, since he's explored such a unique creative touch in films I've adored ( Safe. Far from Heaven" and films I've felt more lukewarmly about ( Carol. I'm Not There. Surprisingly, he charges straight down the line with "Dark Waters." This is an interesting if not engrossing film, and it feels like it could be directed by anybody.
That's not necessarily a bad thing when you have an actor as good as Mark Ruffalo in the lead, because the movie gets out of his way and lets him do his thing. He gives a restrained, compelling performance and resists the urge to overplay the everyman-as-hero aspects of this story. This film is more "Silkwood" than "Erin Brockovich." As much fun as it was to watch Julia Roberts tearing around the screen giving everyone a what-for, she wasn't once believable as a working class broad. Ruffalo, on the other hand, IS believable as a modest attorney in Rust Belt America, and he builds a full performance out of subtle, quiet moments rather than any big, showy, Oscar clip ones. This is basically a one-man show, though he's given able support by Tim Robbins, who's worth the price of admission for the scene where he hands a young cocky attorney his ass, and Bill Pullman, gruff and hilarious and using an accent from God knows where. It would be hilarious if he ended up pickings guy to marry 😂. I saw the trailer to this movie months ago and I wanted to see it; I didn't think it would be on par with the Incredibles at all, but I was still interested in the premise of a top tier spy being turned into a pigeon.
The movie focuses on Lance Sterling, a top super spy in his agency who one day, is framed for a crime, and must count on a young gadget inventor Walter Beckett for help, only to accidentally be turned into a pigeon. The two must now work together to bring down a powerful criminal named Killian (subtle name there right. br> All in all I enjoyed this movie, but I don't think it'll stay on my mind for long. I like Will Smith and Tom Holland in a movie together. But spy movies are a dime a dozen these days, just like heist movies. This movie also has some predictable moments in it, the first one beginning (SPOILERS) in the opening scene when Walter is very young, and his mom's a cop, and she says "I'll always have your back" and I thought to myself "ok, the moms gonna die and the movie will use that to have Walter and Lance have a bonding moment" and all of that ends up happening. Some predictions didn't come true though, like the character Marcy; thought she'd be in league with the villain but she wasn't, which was nice. You also have fun with some of the other pigeons Sterling gets to know, they were funny too.
I will say I liked a lot of the slapstick humour and a lot of the goofy gadgets this movie has, made for a lot of comedic moments. I'd recommend it for some laughs, go check it out.

The addams family is a classic but its been done many times now... Can we appreciate that the “spell book” is just a DnD manuel xD. Ok, I feel like I have to mention this, in the sonic games, Dr. Robotnik Dr. Eggman's grandpa, so who was hunting down Sonic for his powers, if it was only his friends and Dr. Robotnik didn't create Shadow or live in Sonic's world yet.

'Spies in Disguise' is essentially a family-friendly James Bond, with the minor twist that the spy gets turned into a pigeon! It's got plenty of action and adventure for an animated film, with Lance (Smith) the super-spy fighting the Yakuza in one of the opening scenes. He's assisted by the weird gadget guy, Walter (Holland) as they're framed by the villain, Killian (Mendelsohn - great to hear his Aussie accent) who has a robotic hand, and are chased down by Marcy (Jones) from a FBI-like agency.
It's a bit like 'Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs' in that Walter is an awkward inventor of weird and wonderful gadgets, but wants to make the world a better place and make them non-lethal, rather than just guns and bombs. This obviously clashes with Lance's views, especially when he's transformed into a pigeon via gene-editing (100% impossible. Hence, Will Smith spends most of the film voicing a pigeon, which is also where much of the humour comes from.
There are quite a few funny moments, especially as pigeon-Lance inadvertently befriends other pigeons. It's mostly fun and fast-paced. The main thing I didn't like is that Spider-Man spent most of 'Far From Home' fighting drones in Venice, which is essentially what Tom Holland ends up doing here. I guess they're easy to have as disposable bad guys. Cool to hear some of the voices, but the film's heart comes from the friendship and teamwork formed by Lance and Walter, as well as the positive message that we're all weird in our own way - and that's a good thing.

Story from what I can gather: Agent J from MIB is working with Peter Parker in order to defeat Dr. Claw while dressed in a Pigeon suit. 3:45 a moment of silence for the people who failed NNN at this part. Let's get wierd BOOM. The best moments is probably will Smith saying THATS HOT. I actually really liked the first one and Im not gonna lie but. this actually looks promising. To me atleast.

A24 A24  is adding to its impressive catalog of horror titles with its unsettling new film,  Saint Maud. As with Midsommar, The Witch  and Hereditary before it, Saint Maud  looks like another winning film that strikes a balance between cinematic beauty and genuinely terrifying storytelling. The film follows Maud, a strangely devout hospice nurse who becomes fixated on saving her dying patient’s soul. What begins as a domestic drama shifts into a disturbing, psychological thriller with a sadomasochistic undercurrent, before culminating in what looks like a full-blown exorcism. A24 is steadily carving out an entirely distinct space within the horror genre. And in  Saint Maud,  writer-director Rose Glass seems to draw on the most frightening elements of titles like  Carrie, and The Exorcist, whilst also doing some altogether new and scary. Watch the trailer below. Aside from the animation worsening a bit on cats in the corners of the screen, the film is well executed, the singing is phenomenal, and people are just hating on this because they want to, and to me, that's really sad. This was someone's dream and audiences are stomping all over it. Hopefully it continues to make money from people who go see it with an open mind, but unfortunately, it it isn't Disney, it is being pounded into the ground for taking risks and being weird. Heck, even when Disney does do something weird, it's never truly weird, and I'm sick and tired of people blasting anything they find different just because it's different. Beautiful music, beautiful acting, beautiful casting, and beautiful choreography aren't enough for people anymore. Not even for a movie that's essentially one giant dream, scary bits and all.
