If Ingmar Bergman was a French woman and made YA movies, then you would get the director of Portrait of a Lady on Fire. I'm in tears just after seeing the movie and listening to this song. I'm speechless. Looks like she has moved on in her life (different page # on portrait. But she still remembers to visit the orchestra. Perhaps it's just better to watch someone you loved from afar living her life well than to have to fight an entire society and its prejudices to be with her? People were less accepting back then.

Portrait de la jeune fille en feu english. Portrait of a Lady on Fire is at times one of the best films of the decade, with stellar acting by every actress, a daring script that involves slightly taboo themes and a great, yet minimal score.
At other times though, the film is completely ruined by having too long static shots that, while showcasing the actresses' abilities, really bored me and just made me wish the film was over already. That's a feeling that is also compounded due to the slow pace present. This is especially noticeable when we transition through scenes in a sudden and choppy way, that would be more appropriate for a trailer. The worst part of the editing and the choice of having long shots is that they really turn this movie into a drag. This is a 2 hour long film, that, if it was shot differently, could have had more character development (which it really needs in regard to the relationship portrayed) instead of scenes where no one is doing anything. The only good part of the cinematography, apart from some actually good shots (like all of the campfire scene - that was beautiful) was the absolutely stunning location.
To conclude, this film really disappointed me and it especially hurts since there is something truly great buried within and I can't fathom how a film that so many seem to love, has so many big issues, turning it into an amateur short film that somehow ended up being 2 hours long.

Lovely video! I have a question for you (and all the people who have seen the film already - SPOILER ALERT. At some point in the movie they talk about what they remember and Héloïse says, she remembers the first time she wanted to kiss Marianne. In the movie it is never revealed so I would love to know, what you think. When was the first time Héloïse wanted to kiss Marianne and why do you think it is that moment.

The part I LOVED was the painting at the end that pointed to page 28 so she knew by looking at the portrait she was thinking of her. If I was her I would have taken the painting and run away with it lol so i could forever look at the one i loved because it couldnt work out for whatever reason back in those days... Congratulation 👏👏🎉. Oh I just love it when you guys get so passionate about a film! I saw it a few weeks ago in a really small theater and it was absolutely enchanting and so representative of not only the universal human experience, but also very much of my own experience as a sapphic woman in a way no other film ever quite managed to. I felt so seen. Keep up the great reviews of queer movies, it's so wonderful when people use their platform for that.
